Mary Was Here Photography Tour Scotland takes you to some the most, historical and notable sites that Mary Queen of Scots visited or stayed at. This tour comprises of 5 nights (accommodation is included in the price with a full Scottish breakfast) and 5 full days visiting and photographing some of the most iconic locations that Mary Stuart visited or stayed at. You will spend 5 nights at The Golden Lion Hotel in Stirling, “The heart of Scotland”.

This Mary Queen of Scots tour is led and conducted by professional photographer (and Scottish history fanatic) James Christie, a 40-year veteran of his industry. We will pick you up from Edinburgh International Airport, Waverley Train Station or any central Edinburgh location and return you to the same or convenient location on the final day of the tour.

James has spent several years researching and putting this tour together, to offer you a truly once in a lifetime experience. James can provide photographic equipment for you to use while on the tour (at no extra cost) if necessary. Smart phones are also very welcome. You don’t need to be a keen photographer to enjoy this tour.

Entry to all locations is included in the price. Appropriate lunch breaks and bio-breaks are included each day; however, lunch and dinner are not included in the price. James will ensure that you go home with unbelievable photographs of each location to ensure you have long lasting memories of this unique, once in a lifetime experience. Please note: Some of the locations may be closed in the winter months, October – April.

Day One

Pick up and check-in at The Golden Lion Hotel, Stirling. James will meet you in the evening (after dinner) for drinks and a get to know you session.

Day Two

Edinburgh City Chambers (Former site of Sir Simon Preston’s Home)

Edinburgh Castle

Holyrood Palace (Where Mary married Darnley and also where David Rizzio was murdered)

Day Three

Crichton Castle (Mary attended a wedding in January 1562, the castle being the principal seat of the Hepburn Family)

Borthwick Castle (Where Mary and Bothwell were attacked in June 1567. This location is now a private residence and therefore it will be external shots only, at this location)

Tantallon Castle (Had been a castle of the Douglases for centuries and was visited by Mary in 1566 on her homeward leg of her journey from Jedburgh after her life-threatening illness.)

Dunbar Castle (Where Mary and Darnley fled after Rizzio’s murder)

Day Four

Alloa Tower (July 1566, Mary stayed here for a short summer vacation after a period of recuperation from childbirth)

Castle Campbell (Mary attended a winter wedding in January 1563, the seat of the earls of Argyll)

Loch Leven Castle (Mary was imprisoned here for almost a year, June 1567 – May 1568)

Falkland Palace (Mary visited Falkland Palace numerous times to enjoy both hunting and hawking)

Day Five

Craigmillar Castle (Mary recovered from illness at Craigmillar. The main residence of Sir Simon Preston, one of her most loyal supporters)

Traquair House (Mary visited Traquair while on a hunting trip. There is a bed here said to have been slept in by Mary and a cradle used by her infant son James)

Hermitage Castle (Mary visited the badly injured Bothwell here after he had been attacked by the Elliots of Liddesdale)

Mary, Queen of Scots House, Jedburgh (Mary stayed here for over a week in late 1566, recovering from yet another bout of illness)

Day Six

Stirling Castle (Mary spent most of her early childhood at Stirling Castle)

Callendar House (Mary stayed here on her way to Edinburgh. This had been the hereditary residence of Alexander, 5th Lord Livingston, the father of Mary Livingston, one of the Queen’s “Four Mary’s”)

Linlithgow Palace (Our final stop brings us to Linlithgow Palace, Mary’s birthplace)

Edinburgh – and we sadly say our goodbyes.

2 people – Pick-up and drop-off, twin, or double room for five nights (including full Scottish breakfast), entry to all locations = £4,120 for both or £2,060 each.

3 people – Pick-up and drop-off, twin, or double room and a single room for five nights (including full Scottish breakfast), entry to all locations = £5,232 for all three or £1,744 each.

4 people – Pick-up and drop-off, twin, or double room x 2 for five nights (including full Scottish breakfast), entry to all locations = £7,840 for all four or £1,960 each.

** Please Note: My Cancelation policy is very transparent. At the time of booking, I require a 50% non-refundable deposit and the balance is due no later than 90 days before your tour date. There is a 14 day cooling off period from your date of booking. If you change your mind within 14 days of your date of booking, your deposit will be returned in full – no questions asked. If for any reason, you cannot make the dates that you have booked (after the cooling off period) we will gladly reschedule your tour to dates that are mutually convenient. Hotel accommodation may differ, subject to availability.
